Art Tag "Nature"

Well, this is it for today, tried to get a lighter picture of this but the scanner is scanning it dark?? This has been fun, spending alot of time looking for bits and pieces. It reminds me of mosiacs, very much the same ...cutting all the pieces and searching for just the right one. If you click on the picture it enlarges it and it is easier to see. More tomorrow! XO Susan

Art Tag "Friend"

These are the newest, a little different, click on to enlarge. "Friend" 7 1/2"x 2 3/4" SOLD!! These little guys have just been purchased by Susan in Sacramento! Thankyou Susan!

Art Tag "BEE"

I think as I go these are going to get more lavish! I thought I would draw the line at lace but I am looking fondly at some sweet pieces I have collected thru the years.Jewels would be nice too, have put a few on some of the cards. It is amazing what we have just sitting in boxes and in our cupboards. At some point I will put these in the gallery but right now I am having a very good time learning as I go along. Yes, I am still painting and doing clay and what ever, idle hands you know!!

Art Tags

Ok, this is a stretch, but I am having a really good time making these. Art Tags can be for gifts and book marks or just to hang on the wall! I love them, always picking them up at card shops and shows. I am working out new ideas for these.
I am meeting with some art friends next week and one of them is the "Queen" of Art Tags, Vicki Greene. We are going to really have fun with these but thought I would share!
These are 71/2"x23/4". I have pieces of my paintings on them and other things I have collected. Click the picture for a larger view!
I went back in and played with these. Added a few more pieces. Rather than taking the others out(which I don't know how to do) and redoing the whole thing I just added the new ones!

Big Sur

The fire in Big Sur up in back of me here on the Central Coast is 65% contained this morning. The smoke and ash has lessened a great deal. We are so relieved. Highway 1 is opened and the news has brought a lot of people to town here in Cambria. I understand too that businesses are opening back up in Big Sur.

The condors have survived,we have a very large area that is a sanctuary for them and the young were air lifted out. The older followed their instincts and prevailed. The firemen , heroes all, beat back the fire and saved our historic structures there. So much loss in homes, wildlife and majestic pines. Thankfully no lives lost!

The Big Sur is spiritual, nature at its most pristine. It will most certainly return to it's magnificent grandeur.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the brave heroic firemen and so too the many courageous workers and volunteers.

God Bless, XO Susan

What a fabulous day! Yesterday Gayle and I went to Palo Alto to the huge Clay and glass show.

Incredible work, miles of it!! Alot of Gayles artists from her gallery were participating and that was fun. A wonderful demonstration on the wheel. Throwing off the hump which I had never seen, (Nichibei Potters)all of you potters out there know what that is!?
The most beautiful glass work and huge clay pieces, thrown and hand built and sculpture. All of it just blow away! I didn't leave with out a little something!
Gayle met up with many of her artists and I was so fortunate to be introduced to some of these extraordinary glass makers and potters.

It was a beautiful day, a bit of smoke from the fires but not too bad. Nice for the artists and a wonderful turn out. If you ever get a chance to go it should not be missed!!

ACEO

Good Morning!
While I am waiting for the batterie to charge up in my camera I thought I would tell you of a movement that is afoot. I am so excited! Have you heard about ACEO's? They are very small paintings or collage, or anything in the artworks that is done in a 2.5 x3.5 format. The size of a playing card.
Originating during the Impressionist period they were called ATC's, art trading cards. Traded and collected by artists who wanted to have a sample of another artists work. Also called "pocket art."
ACEO's are "art cards editions and originals". These small cards are now being done by artists and traded and sold. The price varies depending on subjects and time involved.
I am enthralled! Loving abstracts as I do I painted several of these small pieces and am going to offer them for sale. I will be painting all kinds of subjects, some more detailed than others and priced accordingly.
I will be adding them to the blog later today and adding them to my FAA site too. I hope you like them, it is a fun and affordable way to collect art!

8"x8" inch shell frame by Amber Waltz
I was in Fresno over the weekend for my grandson Kalens graduation. Wonderful! I am so proud of him! Lots of family, really fun!

I was talking to my daughter about teaching. She makes sea shell frames and mirrors. Lovely! She sells them in a furniture gallery there .She gave me several and I suggested she teach them in a workshop here. She said she would love to.You could bring your treasured seashells or she would have shells there, frames too or you could bring something you have.
I will be putting a 2 day workshop together for her soon. Please let me know if you would like to join that workshop! You will be able to make more than one frame and learn her interesting application techniques. 150. for 2 days plus supplies.
I am also going to start weekly classes in oils and acrylics. You may paint any subject you wish.Beginners to advanced.
Once a week on Tuesdays to start. I have found a place here. If you think you might be interested in either the workshop of sea shell frames or the weekly painting classes or both of these , please let me know. susanjenkinsart@charter.net

Clay Work

Well, it finally happened, the dreaded kiln breakdown! Yep, had a bunch of work in side and the element broke apart.....terrible! A set back! Until I can get a new one (this one has been hanging on by a thread) when ever that is, I will have to wait to fire these pieces. Anyone have a kiln they want to sell?? Geez......

I will try to get out of this funk mood I am now in and go out to the studio and paint!
So see you soon with a new painting!

New Work

Good Morning!

It is a gorgeous morning here on the coast and I hope it is where you are too!

I am getting ready to go out to my studio and work. I have a commission in clay to start today and I also have some small pieces to make for the Chambers Gallery.
How ever, I feel an abstract coming on! Must not be deterred but I am inspired! I was reading this morning of something called Yupo. It is a plastic paper primarily used by watercolor artists. Have any of you painters out there experimented with it?

I did read of one artist who used oils on it, that is what I want to try.Apparently the paint doesn't absorb, it has a degree of difficulty because putting on layers isn't possible! It just moves what is already underneath! That can be frustrating to say the least! There must be a drying technique...hair dryer for water color...well anyway, that is my next experiment!
Please let me know if you have tried it, I would love to have your input!

More on this later! XO Susan
