8"x10" oil on canvas       This is one of the pieces that will be going to Claire's in Solana Beach. Claire's is a darling place that offers wonderful hand made pastries and the best coffee ever! I'm sending crows of a varied assortment along with a variety of  painted cupcakes. I couldn't resist including a crow with cupcake!!

GREEN PEARS

I've been painting for the last couple of days. I went on Kathryn Glover's  blog ( her blog is right here if you scroll down to the right on my blog list)just to see what she was up to in her wonderful  loose painting style. She has painted beautiful yellow pears! Soft and loose and laying softly in the folds of cloth. I love it and inspired today to paint pears! Completely different style, which is fun!

CHEESE and CRACKER'S

20"x24"   oil painting still life on panel.  One of my most favorite things in the world ,cheese and crackers!! Also still life.   I started out as a still life painter and this painting was fun to paint. It was done on a panel because I just love the way the brush hits the hard surface and glides. I'm taking this painting to the Chambers Gallery today.

Egg Separator

I do other things besides hearts and painting altho lately it doesn't seem that way!  Today is my brother in law's birthday and I made him a cake. He is a special guy and he loves white cake with  fudge frosting. Who doesn't?? Egg whites are asked for and to do that I used my beloved egg separator. My daughter, Amber, as a child many years ago, gave me this egg separator for my birthday. I did alot of baking when I had my little family and made alot of cakes. I have used it over and over again thru the years. It has broken and been repaired with Elmers glue several times. Today making this cake I am reminded of my children,family, the many cakes I've made and  my sweet daughter Amber.  Mmmmm the house is cozy with memories and a cake in the oven.

Yes, I did say I was getting back to my tote bags but I had one more painting I wanted to do. One last wine bottle painting. This is it!!!

Lunch With Matisse

Well I just have to say THIS was fun! I am getting back to my really loose brush strokes after all this time painting the birds and small tighter works. It takes a little bit of time to get loose!
I just loved using all this pink and red and yellow too. These colors are the new trend colors and pink is one of the top colors for 2011. I am very partial to pink and red so I am really excited to paint more pink!

OK, this really is IT! I must start on another painting!! I like it now, I never liked all that dark background and since I had the lanterns in it seemed fun to make it into a nocturn.

I'm still working on this. A few tweaks here and there. I like the festive subject matter.A bit of flash back on the right is something I fight on these over cast rainy days. I'll live with it today and finish it tomorrow and start another.It is very fun to be painting" BIG" again!

PUMPKIN

I'm back to painting still life from life. Putting a set up together , placing a light next to it and painting the subject. I started with something simple. I wanted to paint light and shadow as a sort of practice piece.I got this little pumpkin at the farm stand and I loved the shape and color. It was fun, I felt a bit rusty but I'm happy with the result.  Tomorrow another challenge!!

Vegetable Stand, Santa Rosa Creek Road

A trip to the vegetable stand this morning. My friend Gayle and my sister Julie have taken a little road trip to the back country here to pick up fresh vegetables. I wasn't able to go until now as I have been away. All I was told is that the tomatoes are like candy! That was enough for me. Fresh picked tomatoes!! 5 for a dollar is what the sign said and avocados 50 cents each! It's an honour system. She has an iron piggy bank that you put your money in. When I arrived she and a worker were laying out pumpkins, all sorts, big and small, tall and squatty. I bought a tall one, beautiful! Just had to share my harvest with you!!

What is it about cups, bowls and vessels? I love the idea of them. Of course the practicality goes with out saying. I like them round, to hold what ever suits our fancy. They make me think of cozy things. Soup, cocoa, coffee, tea, ice cream! Here is a stack of cups, waiting for the cozy.

Paula's Avocados

A trip to Paula Teplitz the wonderful potter.

Gayle and I drove out to the country to Arroyo Grande to Paula's house and studio. Paula had work for her for Gayle's Chambers Gallery here in Cambria. It was a gorgeous day and her home sits on a beautiful avocado ranch .

After business was completed she took us to her back yard that is actually a huge vegetable garden with avocado and several fruit trees.It backs up to enormous old oaks and a forever vista of soft hills, citrus and avocado.

She plucked a big box full of avocado's for us and a big bag of oranges, what a treat!A very fun day, all of Paula's beautiful pottery, her studio and the delightful trip to her vegetable garden.

Thank you Paula and Gayle for a special day in the country.
