Egg Separator

I do other things besides hearts and painting altho lately it doesn't seem that way!  Today is my brother in law's birthday and I made him a cake. He is a special guy and he loves white cake with  fudge frosting. Who doesn't?? Egg whites are asked for and to do that I used my beloved egg separator. My daughter, Amber, as a child many years ago, gave me this egg separator for my birthday. I did alot of baking when I had my little family and made alot of cakes. I have used it over and over again thru the years. It has broken and been repaired with Elmers glue several times. Today making this cake I am reminded of my children,family, the many cakes I've made and  my sweet daughter Amber.  Mmmmm the house is cozy with memories and a cake in the oven.

Happy Hen

One of the clients at the Chambers Gallery here has requested a hen painting. She raises them! So interesting to talk to her, did you know you don't need to have a rooster to have a hen lay eggs? Did I know that? I don't think so, never really thought about it!!! Anyway, this is a "Happy Hen " for her!SOLD!!

BIRD NEST

3"x 1.5" hand built porcelain nest.

Being unglazed this has a different look I think than the others I've made with glazes.The color here is from under glazes, fired into the clay.

I'm working on some others with a red clay and very little paint, more fun!

The birds and un glazed,unpainted nests will be going to "Birds of a Feather" a sweet shop here all about birds and bird related things. You will also find antiques, jewelry and yummy taffy!!!

3 1/2x1x 1/2 handbuilt red earthenware clay

Gray colored nests. Many woodland nests are gray because of the natural weathering of twigs. These are two of the new gray. Back to painting birds today!

3 1/4x3 1/2 The eggs of the Tree Swallow are pink! Lovely. Did you know that not only are the Robin's eggs blue but also those of the Eastern Bluebird?

31/2x11/2 My newest nest. Hand built in red earthenware clay.
I settled on a new glaze and I like the dark twiggy effect. The addition of the leaves and blossom bring in a more natural feel. The color of the eggs is a true Robins egg blue and I am excited to find it!
I have several of these nests firing now. Different colors of eggs. There is a pink egg laid by the Tree Swallow and the speckled white egg of the White Breasted Nut Hatch and House Sparrow. I have included these. I will post the nests as they are completed. Such fun! More bird paintings next week!

BIRD NESTS

"2 1/2" earthenware clay and glaze. Since I am painting birds my friend Vicki Greene suggested I make tiny nests. I loved the idea and created several. What fun! They are small enough to tuck into any niche. I believe they will be a very fun addition to the bird paintings.

Carton of Eggs

8x10 0/b I really love painting brown eggs. Not by themselves but in the cardboard carton. The cartons are still the same as I remember as a child. My mother used to get her eggs this way, even my gramma. Brown eggs are wonderful to paint as well as to eat and bake with! The yolks are beautiful too, a rich yellow.
